A typical toilet bowl brush consists of a hard bristled end, usually with a rounded shape and a long handle. Today a toilet brushe is commonly made of plastic, but they were originally made of wood with pig bristles or from the hair of horses, oxen, squirrels and badgers. The brush is typically stored in a holder, but in some cases completely hidden in a tube.
The toilet bowl brush is used to clean the inside of the toilet bowl. To clean the toilet, a toilet bowl cleaner is added to the water in the bowl and then using the toilet bowl brush to scrub the inside and especially under the rim where bacteria and other germs can accumulate. Once cleaned, flushing the toilet is recommended to flush the germs down the drain.
It is also recommended to clean the toilet bowl brush after each use in order to purge the brush itself of odor causing bacteria and germs.
